I'm sure I read somewhere about being able to sex cuckoo marans by their headspot, but cannot find it now. Rolling Eyes

Does anyone know if this is correct, or is there another way of telling? Confused

hello chickenpalace, I believe you're right, it is to do with the white head spot and I think also the girls are darker than the boys. I can't remember who has the head spot though, sorry

Thanks for the info, jaydee. I see that it's an American site so does it go for ALL barred breeds that the headspot is the same as the one shown & not just the Maran?

Well....with mine, when they were just a couple of weeks old, you could tell the boys from the girls as the boys were a lot darker ! Easy !

Phew! Felt sure we were heading for the sewer on that one! Embarassed

I'll have to tell my friend, who wanted to know in the first place. I think they are about 6 weeks old, so maybe she can tell by now anyway! Smile

With mine it was definately clear by 3 weeks ! Boys darker than the girls !

I did hatch marans this year - 8 out of 17 hatched, none survived more than a few weeks.
