I have two questions for you guys:
1. Would Tylan help with sour crop, being an antibiotic? My LS has improved a little but I have tylan and thought it might assist her recovery...
2. Can I give them tylan in the water while also giving their Flubenvet mixed into the layers?
Thanks in advance.... |

It wont hurt to put flub in the water while they're on Tylan.
I wouldnt think Tylan would help sour crop much but it certainly wouldnt do any harm. Incase she has a secondary infection in the crop. |

| They usually get sour crop if they eat anything too big like long blades of grass or big lumps of green like lettuce, cabbage etc. It lodges in the crop and if they dont eat enough grit to grind it down (and some hens dont eat much grit for some reason) then the contents of the crop go sour and start to ferment as the old food decomposes. Thats sour crop. |

| yup, that's an accurate description of what happened. Her crop was empty yesterday when I got home, so the build up of fluid seems to have abated, though she wasn't eating. I gave her soft food and buttermilk which she seemed to like and was drinking too, so I'm hopeful. |

|
|
Unfortunately I had to put Millie out of her pain last night. When I checked on her she had eaten nothing and I don't think she had been drinking either. Her comb had gone very purple and she was looking very sorry for herself, so I made the decision to cull her. It was hard as she was one of my first two hens and was a great big bossy bird, but had to be done. We miss her.
Rest easy Mil.
Thanks for your help and advice PO. I've definately learned a lesson about treats, from now on my hens get layers only with the odd handful of corn in cold weather. |
