I'm totally shameless...
There are three ice cream books that regularly get glowing reviews and so I'm going to plug them
Our copies arrive on Monday... |

| It's one of the major food groups, isn't it? I'm pretty sure that's what they told us in Home Economics. |

| You'll definitely get a lot of pleasure from it. And if you've got soft fruits in the summer... bliss. |

| I was going to get an ice cream maker from ebay, but by the time I added the postage on, there wasn't much difference in the amazon price which would also help a worthy cause. So I've just ordered it from amazon and the dinner lady cook book. I ordered the one like yours, Gina ~ good sales person!!! |

Hence our sudden interest in upgrading to it whilst it's that good a deal. They're shipped direct from the gaggia factory, too. Ordered Tuesday, here Friday. |

They should be on the post at the top of page 4. Graphic boxes with the books in. If you get stuck, I'll PM you the direct links. |

Basic mix 2.
1/2pt double/heavy cream
1/2pt milk
6 oz sugar
4 egg yolks
Beat the egg yolks and sugar together till they are pale yellow (recipe books say white, but that's with supermarket eggs, not real ones). Heat the milk till it's hot-bath temperature, add the double cream, and beat into the yolk mixture. Custard made. |
A rather lovely variation on the above that we've made in the past is to heat up the milk to boiling point with cardamon pods in (about a tablespoon of them), then leave to cool for about 15 mins to infuse and cool. Strain the milk, and continue as above. |
