Hi there
I have a chicken with a swollen foot. None of the toes are affected just the "pad". It is quite pink and hot and when we had a look at it, there seemed to be a "plug" in the middle underneath. Thinking if we removed it lots of lovely puss would come out and she would feel better, we gently dug out the middle. It actually looks more like a corn and now our poor girl has a little hole in the middle of her foot. We have bathed it in dettol solution but before we take her to the vet at £10 before you walk through the door, I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what we can do.
Many thanks

| If you have a horsey supplier nearby, get a pot of kaolin poultice from them and see if you can drress the wound with it. It's a grey mud of chewing gum consistancy & smells lovely. It can be applied hot of cold but the difficulty is keeping any ressing on a hen's foot. I use horse bandage cut to half width. Useful stuff in pretty colours which is elastic and sticks only to itself. Kaolin washes off in warm water. |
