My only 9 week old Gold Brahma hen chick, on a mission!

. The 2 buff columbian I hatched a while ago have both turned out to be pullets - YEH! Very Happy

I'm feeling rather sad at the moment. I went out to check on my new little Brahma chick who ventured out with the "big girls" for the first time yesterday and couldn't find her anywhere. Now the henhouse and run are so escape proof that even a mouse would struggle to find a way out so we were baffled. After a long search, her remains were found in the field alongside the fence. Poor mite had been taken by either a cat or a buzzard.I don't suppose I will ever know but if find out its my cat who did the deed he may well find a few bits of his anatomy removed- without the aid of a vet!!!

I got a gold brahma cockerel from a mates son who hatched it from under a broody hen, He passed him onto me as the other cockerels he has were getting a hard time from him.
He runs in our garden with 2 isa browns and 2 gold silkies.
Has anyone hached or raised a brahma / isa brown hens for eggs or meat ?

I have had a few Brahma bantams. I am currently down to one dark female who is a poppet! She lays light brown eggs on a daily basis and gets on well with all the others plus anyone who stops to chat!!
I would recommend them to anyone.

I'm the proud owner of L/F buff columbian guys and girls also the most beautiful light blue columbian. she is fantastic stands out like a snowy owl next to my buffs. i have just purchase 6 LBC eggs and now every finger and toe is crossed for hatching ( haven't dare til o/h how much they cost ) Twisted Evil

hope to get some pics on soon once i work it out.

Small world, My missus, little one Daisie and I will be down to Sculthorpe, Fakenham at the start of next month.
We were at a rare breed sale the other week here in aberdeenshire, we were looking for brahma chickens with no luck.
Is there a breeder around Fakenham ?
Are these chickens costly to buy ? Shocked

i ordered my eggs from heathers hens in ellon aberdeenshire!!! she's a brahma breeder.!! Surprised

there are breeders around here but stock seems low at mo depending on what colour you want.
prices vary £25-£30 seems going price at mo.
mind you at a sale 2 weeks ago a trio of buffs went for ... wait for it .... £125.00 Shocked

the eggs i brought where £30 for 6 including postage and i think my little light was £45 when partner brought her can't get true figure out of him.
www.preloved.co.uk and www.adtrader.co.uk both have brahmas listed.
i only have chicks of 4weeks old and of course those i'm waiting for Smile

Would you believe it, I stay 11 miles away from Ellon, Do you have a contact for Heathers Hens ?
Cost depends on what you want, ok. Buff trio £125, yes thats lots must have been good birds !

Embarrassed that this my first post is a recommendation.

Brahma hatching eggs, I bought mine from Pampered Poultry in Powys. Email pamperedpoultry@yahoo.co.uk

5 out of 6 hatched, (the odd one may be that I am a newbie at hatching). At 2 weeks old they are big and bonnie and have no idea what sex they are.

They will post eggs d irect. Hope this helps.

Hi Hilarysmum, Welcome to the Forum, thank you for the contact details for pampered poultry, did they send the eggs direct to you in France? If so that was an extremely good hatching rate for posted eggs.
What type of Brahma are they, would love to see some photos.

Question for Brahma breeders - i have got Buff Columbian Brahma bantams and have just has 2 hatch. They are very different in colour - one is much darker than the other, even the wing feathers that are starting are darker than the other. Hatched once before and didn't notice this even though I had one of each sex, they are kept completely separate from any other chooks with no chance of any of them mixing, Is is possible that one is a pullet and one is a cockerel or just a coincidence?

hi,

I thought that when my two buffs were young,one was very much darker than the other,although the lighter was taller.

Now 19 weeks and both are cockerels. they say you can sex a buff when hatched,the male has a black back, when the girl is much lighter.

More hatching next week fingers crossed I get some girls.
