has anybody out there got any advice ,you know my daughter helps look after 2 very large horses ,the problem is that they need shoeing and the blacksmith isn't coming for a while ,and things seem to be getting worse with the blacksmiths coming here ,their feet arn't great ,i've never had anything to do with unshod horses ,the lady who owns them is getting quite concerned about their feet ,does any one keep unshod horses and is it a problem ,there is someone here that can do a trim but that is all ,can anyone help with this ,i thought of you deb the lady is from the states ,

Hi Suz,
Mine are all unshod and are usually ok
The blacksmith up here isn't very good, mine could do with a trim as well but I'm not spending that sort of money for a bad job.
Hectors coming out tomorrow I'll ask him,
theres supposed to be a new one starting soon as well.

is there ,but because they seem to appear and disappear for months ,we were talking about them being unshod with trims we were wondering if that would be better,i'll have to tell holly which is the horses owner ,they're very big shire x's and their front feet are starting to crack slightly i think because they need doing ,she'll probably speak to hector it's just that everyone seems to have feet shod ,and what are the pros and cons ,knobby think how much the poor horse went through Twisted Evil ,

Mine are unshod. I have the ferrier out every 60 days to do a trim. If they start to get really bad, cracks and chips etc., in the meantime...then I take a file and file down to round the edge off and file the cracks off.

You can trim them yourself, if you have agreeable horses. Mine is a doll, she just stands there, but the one's we board are pain in the butts.

If she needs one on one help or conversation...give her my email address....@hotmail.com Wink
