Do you give your dogs bones, if so do you give them raw or cooked? Is it OK to give them the bones from the Sunday roast? My 2 have quite powerful jaws and I worry about them getting splinters stuck in their intestines, or have I been watching too many vet type programmes on the telly |

| No you haven't been watching too many tv programes - cooked bone are bad for dogs. We have 7 dogs but don't give them bones as 2 of them have funny tums but when i did it was always raw large bones that were difficult to splinter. Raw chicken wings and raw lambs breast is good for them too (the bones are soft and don't splinter) and help clean teeth, but give them as a meal - not too many. |

| Same here. My two are terriers so for breakfast they get chicken wings, neck and any other bits that are small enough for them to crunch up easily. When we've run out of chickens, they get bits of lamb breast but their favourite is neck chops (I cut most of the meat off for hubby though). Always, always raw. |

I understood that chicken bones are bad for them or does this only apply to cooked chicken? So RAW chicken wings are OK then? Raw chicken - "beurk" as they say here!
I get a bone for my dog when I go to the butchers. |

Yes it's just RAW chicken bones - especially the neck and wings - the bones go brittle when cooked and splinter. Mine get lamb breasts RAW just very occasionally - usually when i can think of nothing else to do with it and it's the last lamb joint in the freezer |

Thanks folks for putting my mind at rest. I have only ever given mine raw bones, never chicken but I have recently had conflicting conversations with friends, one saying she always give the sunday roast bones to her dogs and the other saying it was dangerous to give any bones to dogs.
I will continue to give them raw bones from the butcher and they can have the wings and neck when I start culling.
Sam and Franky say thank you as well. |
