Well, the chick I have rescued 3 times, is now back under the heat lamp. It was not as flat and cold as yesterday morning, but was cooling and looking sleepy. I know I should leave it, but it has this one last chance.
It has a dirty, clay coloured poo, bottom. I have cleaned it and the vent is clear for pooing.
It seems a little swollen abdominally.
It is over balancing often onto it's rump.
I have a feeling all this means something, but I don't know or remember what. So, if you have any advice, I would like to hear it...thanks. |

| I don't know what's wrong, but I think you're right that this is its last chance. Nurturing a poor doer at this time of year is really not worth it. |

You're right. I put it back in with mum and siblings this afternoon, and tonight when I went to lock up, it was dead. Definitely something wrong.
Still, she has 8 going strong.

| Sorry to hear that Kathy, I think you went above and beyond the call of duty to give it a fighting chance but unfortunately it was just not meant to be. At least Mum has 8 left to nurture and teach. |

So sorry Kathy.
You did your best but there must have been something seriously wrong & you'll probably never know exactly what it was. |

My abandoned/hand reared chick has surviived, although a bit runty, but has developed a crossed beak. I guess mother hens know a thing or two. |
