Hi
As well as my worries over the newly arrived Warrans making themselves at home, and the maran who hasn't laid for four weeks, one of our two welsummers appears to be broody. She's only six months old and only been laying since mid July, but does all the fluffing up and sitting on nest and back on nest rather than roosting at night.
Thing is, our chook accommodation is stable at night, fruit enclosure during the day- transported there by hand. Previously this welsummer (Dawn) would only lay back in the stable and my children diligently took her there for an hour or so each day to lay. Now if taken there she just sits for hours on our decoy wooden egg and hasn't layed for 2 days (not like her). So today I left her in the fruit enclosure where for the first time she sat in our little nest box- clearly looking for a place to...brood!
Will the separate day/night accommodation arrangement discorage broodiness or put the four other girls off their lay??
thank you |
