| My Rooster, adopted 6 months ago has four bright red patches, two around the neck, one under his bum and one chest area, he also had bright red areas in between his toes. When I got him I gave him everything, he was wormed and I used spot on and Verm X over time and nothing made the red patches any better. The vet then gave Ivermectin and the redness in between his toes got paler but nothing else changed. I thought at first that it was feather mite because the feathers in the area are broken off just as they come through but surely all that parasite stuff would have got rid of them? The poultry house is very clean, regularly steamed and treated, no other birds have this. Anyone any ideas? |

| If you used a spot on and an ivermectin product it's just possible that it hasn't worked, as lice and feather mites don't actually live on blood, they don't bite the bird, and for the two products you have mentioned to actually work, the crawlies would have to drink the blood of the ckl for it to kill them, lice and feather mites live on dead skin and feathers, so you will need to use the frontline spray for it to work and kill them, these sort of parasites need a contact killer, not an internal one mate. sorry, but you could try it and hopefully this will kill anything he has that could be causing it. Also, have you seen anyone pecking at him? he might have over amourous ladies rather than creepy crawlies! xx |

| Hi Jubilee thanks for your reply, sorrry, I'm a bit late replying. What I wanted to say was Ivermectin is a contact spray, 15 sprays for the rooster. I have seen some of your other posts so I'm going to get some ant powder and try that. I have examined him really closely and can't see anything creepy crawly. Maybe he's got a skin condition so if the ant powder doesn't work it's another trip to the vets! |
