Is it normal for the colour of the ducks to change at this time of year.? They are about 1 year old (ish). Our drake who used to be a lovely shiny very dark brown with blue/green tint has started to go lighter and very patchy. The females have also stopped laying. Posted: Fri Sep 12, 2008 11:18 am    Post subject: Yes Seahorse, this is perfectly normal for them to do this - all of my males do this they will get very patchy white before a molt and the girls will stop laying about now until the spring. Mine started around Feb this year and have just stopped now, I was just slightly short of 200 eggs this year which isn't bad.
