Thanks for that mamapacker, you have taken the info how it was intended mate, as for feeding milk to meat birds, i don't suppose it matters much what it does to their insides as a long term thing, as non of them will be around long enough to know! it will naturally add flavour to their meat because of the high fat content, so if fat depostits in the meat, heaven knows where else it deposits? round the heart pressumably. Milk is a mammal "thing" and in an emergency, such as sour crop in poultry, i can quite understand why someone would use it, all i'm suggesting is that if you have an ill chook, porridge made with milk, and offering milk to drink plus feeding probiotic yoghurts as a weekly thing perhaps in the long term isn't doing the "good" you think it is. Now there is a proper product designed for our chooks, it's got to be better to use that? No insults intended, i'm only concerned for the welfare of ALL chickens. xx

One of my chooks likes goats milk and finishes it off from my cereal bowl if she has a chance (I cant eat cows milk)!

Please, please can we find out what happened to the hen that wasn't eating. As you've probably read in one of my other threads, i had the same problem with mine but was told that she couldn't have gone 21 days without food so she must have got off and had some whilst i wasn't looking. (perhaps, but i didn't bother to reply to that one.!)

Is it just me or does she just sound like a devoted broody? I have had one recently and she hardly ever came off the nest (apart from coming off to do huge poo Surprised

) Unless you are watching them 24-7 how do you know she is not coming off by herself to eat and drink? Also I dont know about the purple comb but mine went pale and it might be an idea to check the nest for redmite as the little bleeders often go for a broody sitting for long periods Mad

I also dont think it is necessary to keep taking a broody off the nest to poo/eat + drink, they manage well enough themselves. Just my thoughts and opinions Smile
