Hi,
I've had 4 Bovan Neras since mid July, and they should now be around 18 weeks old. I have them in a coop, with nest box and perches, and a large run, but they also get free time in the garden each day too.
They had been roosting in the nest box when first here, so I'd blocked off the nest box, to encourage perching instead. That was fine, but they went back to roosting in the nest box as soon as I opened it again. So it's back to being blocked off now.
My questions are, should I be giving then access to the nest box at this age, to encourage laying?
Does blocking the nest box actually delay them from starting to lay?
Or will they just start laying, anywhere, when they're ready to?
Should I wait to see an egg somewhere before opening up the nest box?
Thanks for any advice!! |
