Put the 11 Barnevelder eggs in the incubator last night - although i still have my doubts about 4 of them being Barnevelders - and, having some room left, thought I would see if my Brahma bantam cockerel was fertile and have added 5 Brahma bantam eggs too . Haven't a clue where I'm going to put them if they all hatch but I'll cross that bridge when they do . |

Hi Chris,
Be careful re those Brahmas. I put some Minorca eggs in just to test whether this years Spring hatched cockerel was up to the job yet. He was, then I couldn't resist temptation and now I've got 12 one week old chicks running around in one of my sheds.
Hope my chicken sitter doesn't mind because I'm going on holiday in three weeks.
On a more serious note though, I was sceptical about doing it because I'd never hatched chicks after the longest day before but all sorts of people assured me that they thrive just as well as early hatched chicks and now I'm glad I did. |
