| im building a wooden chicken coop and cant decide if i shoud paint it or use that cuprinol type stuff i read somewhere that if you paint the inside with limewash or gloss paint it can help against red mite anyone tried this? |

I've not tried it, but if you can get gloss paint into all the nooks and crannies I would think it helps deter red mite by reducing their hiding places.

We used gloss paint and it does seem to have done the trick...touch wood/fingers crossed!!  |

We used silicone sealant on all the joints, nooks & crannies which seemed to help a bit but we still got redmite in the parts we couldn't seal.  |

| we decided we will use wood presever on outside but leave inside as hubby cleverly pointed out paint or sealer could crack leaving tiny gaps which are difficult to disinfect |
