im building a wooden chicken coop and cant decide if i shoud paint it or use that cuprinol type stuff i read somewhere that if you paint the inside with limewash or gloss paint it can help against red mite anyone tried this?

I've not tried it, but if you can get gloss paint into all the nooks and crannies I would think it helps deter red mite by reducing their hiding places.

We used gloss paint and it does seem to have done the trick...touch wood/fingers crossed!! Very Happy

You should never paint the inside of a wooden building as it stops the wood breathing.

We used silicone sealant on all the joints, nooks & crannies which seemed to help a bit but we still got redmite in the parts we couldn't seal. Twisted Evil

we decided we will use wood presever on outside but leave inside as hubby cleverly pointed out paint or sealer could crack leaving tiny gaps which are difficult to disinfect
