I hatched 2 sussex chicks, and thought they were hens, same shape tail? same size, combs the same, everything identical hatched 12 weeks, I was going to increase my cockerel's 'girls' Today I had a good look at them, and one is a cock!!! I'm pig sick, it just prove 'don't count your chickens'. Still its one for the pot!! The only problem I have now is... what the dickens am I going to do with him while he grows. Sometimes these heavy breeds can keep you guessing. Annoying when it happens though. The only good thing is that usually they are slow to mature so can be happily kept with the pullets without to many problems for quite a while. Quite a contrast with the Mediterannean breeds where its usually easy to sex them because of the males precocious development but where fighting starts fairly early between the boys.
