Rhode island reds are not hybrids, there are PURE breeds They are probably just a type of brown hen which they are calling a Rhode island.
On the other hand Blue belles are hybrids and will lay you more eggs, not the best hybrid layer though. |

| Bradders - you're thinking of a RIR cross bred which is a RIR crossed with another breed. |

In a way Mojo you can!!!!
The definition of pedigree is knowing the lineage or anscestry of the dog. The Working Sheepdog is an unpapered/unregistered Border Collie and even if you can prove the anscestry way down the line, the Kennel Club will still register them as X breeds when registering on the working register (the same applies for any unpapered "pedigree" dog). So in affect the KC see some pedigree dogs as mongrels! . Sorry to be pedantic but it is a bugbear of mine that the KC can be so blinkered! |

Yep you are being pedantic
Words can have many meanings in our language and yes you can say any dog ' has a pedigree ' as does a competition or a company but that is not the same as being ' a pedigree dog '.
However we all know that when someone says " a pedigree dog " they mean a purebreed dog registered with the K.C ( or equivelent body abroad) as such.
Thus to 99 percent of people including Show judges like myself right through to pet owners a 'pedigree dog' is a purebreed not a mongrel or crossbreed. I'm sure folk mean the same when talking about chickens rabbits or horses |
