To be honest, I could sell loads more than I am doing at the minute, I always said that they wouldn't be for profit, as long as they could pay for their own food/equipment. With this in mind i'm selling them at £1 per half dozen which works out at roughly £12 per week which easily covers their food/corn plus lots of spares.

But as i'm selling them so well (advertised as fresh free range eggs) I may as well buy a few more Very Happy Very Happy

The rent on our allotment is £23 per year. We can only have 12 hens on it though.

Goodness that land sounds expensive to me - although I am out in the country with nothing but fields - and alot of them empty - so maybe our rental is cheaper. I have a third of an acre attached to the cottage I am trying to sell. If I thought I could rent it out for such big money I would have done!! Surely it would be cheaper to have an allotment - ours are very cheap.

I think you will have to think very carefully before taking the plunge. Eggs are plentiful during the summer, but what about the winter months? My egg production will go down to nothing I know, in a matter of weeks. I have 40 hens and sell the eggs free range from the gate. I get probably 18-20 eggs some days, other days less. As to selling, thats the same, I may sell two dozen today and none tomorrow .....I don't rely on my egg sales to pay rent, as I own the land. But you are not going to make enough to pay the rent and buy the feed etc. my 40 hens can eat some food over a week. I am definitely not rich from my egg sales!!
