Mine have both (not bales but a flat surface) and they use both. You need a good sized branch for a turkey to get it's feet round without being too tight so probably bales are better when they are adult.
How are they doing anyway? I saw them when they were still in the house.

Hi Itsy, they're doing well, and are 10weeks old now. Bradders has put some pics of them in his diary today.
I think we have 1 stag and 3 hens but not to sure about the blue one
They've been outside some weeks now but are outgrowing their billet altho they do freerange in the day.
The men are making them a new pen. I was just going to let them roost in the cattle barn, but they are so nice and with sooo many foxes about I thought they need somewhere safer
How are you and your lot |

That's really cool How do they manage to steer with their beaks?
Mine are fine thanks Spana - well the one that's left is, and it's a girl so I'm pleased about that, mother is sitting on more eggs, I got 11 out of the market and she is down to 6 now and less than a week to go.

Ahhh - tha's where mine have been going wrong I must tell them in the morning
I've still got 2 males from the eggs from Debs, they are sweeties and they look after their little sister, they weren't mature enough earlier in the year for my hens eggs so I bought in from the market - the girl (she's a Bourbon cross) and then the hen came into lay again and went broody before she'd laid more than half a dozen eggs (and I'd eaten those before I realised what was happening ) so I'm hoping for a few more soon.

We are going to pull apart a bale and then run the square baler over it |

That's a good idea . . . . I'm having to rehouse mine and I've just put a shed up so I shall have to scrounge round for a couple of small bales, they are a bit rare these days.

I hope none of my four little turkeys end up as that
Perhaps next year, but for some reason I wont find it easy to cull them, they are so clever and trusting |
