Hi,
As you all know and we have discussed before I have a Maran Rooster. He ( Formally known as Alice, but now Al, as we thought he was a she!) is 20 weeks old and has only just starting crowing ( twice).
I rang the lady today where I got him and she wants him back (luckily for him as I was putting him in the Pot). SO tomorrow is the day. She's exchanging him for a her. Here are a few questions!
Do I need to keep her separate from Ethel or put her straight in?
Do I need to keep them ( new one and Ethel) in for a few days like I did when i first got them?
Will there be Argy Bargy will Ethel makes her ranking known!!
and finally does it matter what type I get in exchange? |

| Doesn't matter what type/breed...just not a lot smaller. Yes, keep them in for the first day or so. Introduce at night. Try not to watch the pecking order fight. Lots of treats to keep them busy and occupied and all should be fine. |

If you keep your neighbours supplied with eggs they are less likely to complain |

On my way this afternoon. I spoke to her yesterday and she said the Marans ( Sisters to what I have) are the eldest she's got, she didn't say what else she has. She didn't think my Maran would lay till the Autumn! That's quite old for a hen isn't it, she's 24 weeks now.

Welsummer's are quite late to lay, around 28 weeks I think, mine certainly were. I think pure breeds lay later than hybrids?
Hope you get what you want and that you soon have some eggs |

I picked up my new hen today. She's a light sussex cross Cochin. Shes really quiet and just sits on my hand ( I hope this is because she is docile and not sick!!)
I have added ACV to the water and red mite powdered her. I haven't wormed as I haven't wormed the others, do you think i should?
Her name is Emily. I put her in the house with Ethel ( Maran) tonight and a bit of argy bargy was going on but not too bad at the moment. I was going to keep them inside the run tomorrow so they can sort it out. Also that will allow Emily to get use to her new home. Is this advised?
She is about the same age as the other one. (24 weeks).
Sorry about the washing in the back ground! |
