Hi,
i got this year from the Normandie 2.3 black-cooper marans and about 10.12 black silver marans.
What I`m a little wondering about are the feather at the legs. Some of them have a lot, some only a few and some no feather on their legs
They should come from the center of Marans selection.
is this normal?
What do you say to the chickens, they are 12 weeks old:
Regards

french stock should have feathered legs uk clean legs.............. local french breeders say feathering is more than 4 feathers per leg...........but unless you intend to show feathered legs dont matter...........what do you Bavarian(German) poultry standards state

Hi there, we bought two marans at the market a couple of months ago, they were light sivery colour with the pencilling, however as they get older it's like paint washing off in the rain! They are getting coppery heads and the odd coppery feather here and there, they were sold as pure bred, have I been duped or do marans sometimes look like this? We have a year old dark cuckoo maran and she is all one colour/pattern all over. Following on from egg colour, my cuckoo lays eggs with mahogany speckles too rather than all over.

Hi, I'm in Devon, UK. I went to the local poultry market which is an auction at the local cattle market. I ended up paying quite a lot for them and hope they are pure maran, we have them as pets along with a Brahma, a Warren (rescued) a light sussex, a laying maran and a random light sussex looking chick of uncertain parentage that the Brahma hatched for us, so 7 girls in total. I think bearing in mind what I paid I will go the the breed centre in future where we got the 1st 4 chicks from then I can talk to the breeder etc, the market seemed a little hap hazard for my organised nature! Thanks for replying I hadn't considered a mix of 2 Marans before.

My Marans, is a copper blue, and has the copper around her neck. It came from Stamina at Poultry Park, and is a pure breed, she is just 1 years of age, but the copper has only been obvious for a few months.

Looking at the pics of the Blue Maran i am confused - i have both Cuckoo Maran and Bluebelles - the Bluebelles look identical to the Blue Maran piccies. My Cuckoos lay dark brown eggs but the Bluebelles lay eggs with a "plum blush" and dark speckles.
