I have just volunteered to knit a proper gansey on circular needles with all the old traditional patterns on, as a Christmas present for my daughter - just waiting for her to choose the colour.... That is going to be some project, hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew....

No, I'm not confident enough to make one up. I have a beautiful book called "Traditional Knitting from the Scottish and Irish Isles" edited by Debbie Bliss and there is a "sampler" gansey in there that has caught my eye. Can you "invent" patterns then Auntie Noo?

I can cobble together something. But more often than not I start with a pattern as an idea and then modify it to suit!!!!
