They go to bed all by themselves now, line themselves up neatly on their perch (which is all of 6'' off the floor!) and generally get comfortable. Until I go down to close the pop hole, when they all come running out to greet me! It's doing wonders for my ego! |

They know when they are onto a good thing! Sounds like your kindness to them is being repaid the only way they know....isn't that lovely!

It's strange, but the ex-batts are friendlier than my original hybrids!

They really warm your heart don't they. We have ordinary Bovan Goldlines and they put themselves to bed. we go out to remove the food and put the door down, but always look in first. They're always in the nest boxes (making gorgeous little noises when they hear us) and when we lift the lid they emerge, all bashfully and get on the perch!! gorgeous girls!!

I don't know what type my ex-batts are, three are a beautiful russet colour with creamy/white, the other one is a very ginger-y shade. Even what's left of their old feathers now glistens in the sun, it's amazing what sunshine, showers, and preening can do! (And lots of TLC!)

I have 4 girls. I bought them 3 weeks ago and last night when they went to bed they were all cuddled up in one nesting box. It was a squash but they all looked so cosy. At first they all picked on little Rocky but now she is just one of the gang. You're right it does warm your heart.

For the last few evenings I've left the dividing fence out between the two pens, but both groups of hens have gone into their usual coop at night.
Yesterday, after a succesful afternoon with all of them ranging together, the top ex-batt decided she wanted to go in the main coop..........but the others wouldn't let her. She tried three times, and I think would have carried on trying, but I was tired and wanted to get them closed up. So I put her in with the other ex-batts.
It will be interesting to see how many evenings before she's allowed in.....
