The Birds I collected yesterday were fed on Mash, however the local supplier I have found is out of stock at the moment. Is it ok to feed them on pellets and (Or) mixed corn? They are 12-14 weeks old.

I will get the mash on monday!

AFAIK the content is the same so if you find they won't take the pellets, try wetting it & it will be just like a wet mash then. Wink

Excellent, I was a bit concerned. They have however been taking the odd pellet out of my hand

You could try grinding some down in a blender/coffee grinder etc? I've done that for the ex-batts and I'm now gradually introducing the pellets.

About 10 mins ago, I put a bowl in the run which I had mashed using warm water, all 6 of them dived at it Very Happy So I've just put another one in to spread them out. As I type they are tucking in.

I am a very happy man now, thanks for the tip

I find there's less wastage with pellets, but they're a bit big for some bantams and young birds.

Why do they need growers AND layers.I thought they needed layers at POL if you have them for there eggs and growers if they are for the table.TC Rosie (rosierosie)

Growers is for meat birds, layers is for layers, rearing pellets are sometimes called growers pellets but are meant for young birds, Confusing innit.

I bung mine right onto layers after 8 weeks.

On my bag of growers pellets it says:-

"Formulated for pullets to feed from 6-8 weeks until onset of lay. Can also be used for fattening birds. A complete feed for growing & fattening."
