Depends really. When I'm collecting eggs, they get thanked by name. When they're mis-behaving (i.e. the wrong side of the fence ) they're "those blasted chickens" but mostly they're just "the chooks" or "ladies". The young coqs are "the boys".
If it's feeding time, it's just "the birds"; like WD, it covers the ducks as well. |

Will try and get a new picture of her with her egg basket and bucket!! she also has a little watering can to help mummy!!, She is so funny everyone she meets she tells them she's got baby duckies!!, then goes onto tell them that big duckies poop'd her bouncy castle!!!
We bought her a bouncy castle and when it rains the ducks have realised that there is big puddles on it so go splashing in them but one had an accident on it and I don't believe she will ever forget it she was so annoyed. Mummy had to disinfect it and clean up the mud and poo!!!
She such a outdoor baby shes worn her first pair of wellies out already tread gone and cracking at the heels and only 22 months old on the 8th of this month!! Probably this sounds like a very pround mum, but the fact is I was 37 when I had her after 5 years of trying and did'nt think we could have children so she is precious and probably to spoilt!! |

We call them 'Girls'.
The song 'Here come the girls' (Boots advert) reminds me of when we let them out in the morning.... |

OK, so who is going to confess to greeting them with 'Hello girls' in the mornings & 'Goodnight girls' when shutting them up for the night?
Oh, that'll be me then... |

Definately me, but I see no shame in it, besides they greet me with a greeting of some sort.... (probably translates to 'about time too ) |

And me! I was so used to talking to my dog, it was just a natural continuation to talk to the hens as they arrived. It does mean they come to me when they hear my voice, which is very handy when it comes to putting them in their pen in the evening.
