I'm keeping an eye on them, as last year's failed due to blight ... so the first signs of blight this year and the whole lot will be pulled-up!
Of course, they're in the wrong place, being in this year's Brassica bed ... but there's space amongs the plants for the brassicas so far ... |
Ditto Vanessa, mine are in with my onions and also beans from last year in with my lettuce, plus tomatoe plants which have appeared from last years compost heap! Makes for an interesting veg plot, all mixed in |

Something of an improvement in the past few days, with a good dose of seaweed fertiliser and and a few sunny and relatively still days. Some vigorous new growth giving cause for a little optimism.
Interestingly, the Shetland Blacks were the least affected by the previous inclement weather, and are currently looking the best of all the rows. A testament I think to the hardy qualities of a local landrace.

we've got a real variety in the allotment, but they were hit with a late frost and don't look like they will do terribly well. But here is the list.
lady Cristal
Salad Blue
Highland Burgundy Red
Shetland Black
Purple Eyed Seedling
Skerry Blue
Witchell
Vanessa
Picasso
Maris Piper.
Plus a few odd self sets from last year including Pink Fur Apple.
I've got a nasty feeling I will spend most of the autumn trying to dig out marble sized spuds cos of the frost, but you never know |

A small update - despite being hit hard twice by northerlies, the tatties are currently looking pretty fine. We've had a week of exceptional weather here, with light south-easterlies and sunshine.
That's often the recipe for heavy sea fog, and hence a higher chance of blight with all the moisture in the air, but we've only had very brief foggy spells, so all appears well.
Everything now vigorously green, some flowers coming. Everything that is with the exception of the Purple Eyed Seedlings, which are looking rather feeble compared to the rest. Am not expecting great things from them.
Continuing with the seaweed fertiliser applications every two weeks. Am quietly confident we'll have a reasonable harvest.
As a final throw of the dice, I planted 5 sprouting Kerr's Pink I found lurking in the bottom of the fridge on 1st July. They're motoring away a dream, despite their late start compared to the others, so I may get some small 'early'-style tatties from them.
