| New to chickens and have just eaten a fresh egg boiled. It was only laid 2 hours previously and I found the white a funny texture and really did not enjoy it. Is it possible that it was too fresh? |

Yes, the white is thicker when very fresh & it also makes the shell harder to peel off. |

24-48 hours in a cool place will do the trick. The white is really strange when very fresh, ok for mixing with stuff but not great as boiled or fried egg!
Welcome Alyvin! |

Welcome Alyvin! I try to plan ahead for hard boiled eggs and leave some for at least a week before boiling them! It says a lot for how fresh supermarket eggs are (not)

| for boiled /frying /poached eggs....i.e. whole 1 day after production for anything else..i.e. broken /mixed eat as fresh as possible............if you have eggs over 10 days old you should give some away to an OAP or cut down on your hens |
