Hi, not sure whether to post this here or under the breeds sections.

Has anyone kept Brabanconne chickens and if so can you give me any information about them please. I have googled and found some info but would like personal experience if possible.

Thanks for the reply Michelle, This is what I have found out from googling.

Brabanconnes are quite rare outside their originating countries. The Brabanconne is also knowns as Brabant Farmyard Fowl. In Belgium it is also called Topman or Houpette. The name is not to be confused with the more common breed Brabanter.

The Brabançonne is famous for its excellent productive capacities. The hens lay very big white eggs that can weigh up to 70 grams. Brabançonnes are very active birds that are busy all day and high fencing is necessary to keep them in their pens

Someone is advertising them for sale here in France and as I had never heard of them before hoped someone on this forum might have kept them
and could give me more info about them before I enquire about purchasing some.

I've looked at them on feathersite in the past and admired them. They seem to be the only breed of large fowl that come in the colour quail which I find quite attractive.

Hi Hen-Gen, I liked the look of the cockerels, beautiful colouring, they reminded me of the ones we used to have strutting around the farm when I was little. If the hens are as good at egg production as is reported I think I might see if I can get a pair. It will be about a 3 hour drive and that is why I posed the question before committing to the drive.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to obtain any here in France, the person that was advertising them sent one reply and then I didn't hear from them again.
Ah well, perhaps I will have to make a trip to Germany Wink
