|

My 9 chocks seem to be coping well with there move but they are still bald But i have now been informed that they where not battery hens just a bad case of moulting.
I have been advised to feed them Lay pellets mixed with Cod Liver Oil and this will make the comb go red and make the feathers silkier and they will probably start laying again (also told not to eat the eggs till about 3 days after the last dose of cod liver oil).
Has any one else heard of this / tried it and if so did it work ??? |

| As a rule of thumb, layers pellets has everything they need, so you don't need Cod Liver Oil. If they're in real bad shape in a molt you can mix a little oil with the pellets once a week. Or you can bung in some vitamins in the water. Too much cod liver oil isn't good for them. It certainly doesnt make the combs redder or the plummage more shiney. |

They really do take time to feather up again. One of mine took three months to look normal after her last moult. Just feed them well, acv in their water once a month for 3 days. A little corn to cheer them up and they will recover.
Do ensure they are lice & mite free, they won't help matters.

| I was advised to give mine extra protein. If they are vegitarian peas or beans or if not some cat food or meat. I gave mine catfood and her feathers are coming on lovely. |

Thanks for the advice i did use the cod liver oil but i guess your right pekinout the pellets must have it all or they would not sell them , i have bought a sack of corn as a treat and hopefully fatten them up.
But on a positive they gave me three eggs today and they went down lovely for my tea.
Once again thank you |

Just wanted to clarify (ta Mojo ) ACV is recommended in plastic containers for 7 days, I use two big ones so only change the water every other day, hence 3 changes....if you know what I mean. The dilution is 2%.
Hope I haven't totally confused you!

Cat food?
Any particular flavours? Seriously, you can feed them that, if so how often?

Any variety you want - but it makes sense not to use chicken flavoured ones, though some on here do.
Yes, indeed.
About 2 to 3 times per week. For about 2 weeks. |

I certainly wouldn't give them chiken!
However, as a treat, I will certainly give them the odd tin. Anything to annoy our cat |
