It's the annual allotment competition on our plots next week (Stephen and I choose not to take part). You wouldn't believe how seriously some people take it. They have been up at there plots at 7am. They wander around looking over everyone else plot and then rush back to do some more hoeing or weeding.

They all claim not to care, but I've never seen so much activity for a long time - since last year in fact. Most are retired and can spend all day up there. I think some of them get sent there by long suffering wives, "Go do something at the allotment - get from under my feet!"

I don't want the tidiest prettiest plot with manicured grass and weedless beds, I want the tastiest fruit and veg.

They don't have comps at ours, thank goodness! But they still wonder about checking out everyones plot. I saw someone the other day sowing grass send in a bare patch between the beds! I'm lucky if if I've got enough time to chop the weeds down between the beds, let alone have grass there!!

How are your crops coming along? I have picked two cucs, peas, strawbs, loads of lettuce and dug my first spuds! Its all soo yummy!

We've had strawberrys, cucumbers on the way, first earlies due this weekend - pentland javelin. Broad beans will be ready this weekend too. The feast is about to start

So far Ive had Raspberries...I picked 2 lb last night....new potatos, Basil, Lettuce, the courgettes are "almost there" & the broad beans will be ready in a day or two "bugger". The first tomato is still green tho'...... Sad

This sounds like a great idea. We could all bring the best we've got and have a big Feast!! If your Toms are green at the mo, they should be good when you get back. I think I'm going to miss all mine.

I have been eating lots of strawberries for about 2 weeks now but no of them have made it home ( handfuls of them devoured at the lottie)

Yesterday OH came down the lottie to help out with the water butt and he asked if he could eat one!!! he thought it was the first ripe one of the year!! Oh Bless!! I didn't have the heart to tell they have been bloody delicious! I let him eat it!

funny reading about you vegs etc all our strawberies are finished(12lb in freezer)rasps on the last picking,toms lots but still green tatys lovely, pumpkins the size of bowls balls,peas eating,green beans eating white beans eating ,runners ten days time,courgettes now ..........just shows how a couple of hundred miles makes a differance to crops but also weve had a drought................love to all mojo
