As I have a whopper of a lime tree in my front garden, after your post Egirl I did a bit of a search. this website has info about them, and the very last paragraph says: It seems likely that native limes were almost eliminated from our woods in medieval times, simply by the pressure of grazing. You can eat young lime leaves raw as a salad, and they make tasty morsels for grazing sheep, cattle or rabbits.

lime trees

So as the shoots along the trunk prevent the council man from mowing the lawn properly, I now have a double incentive to chop the leaves back, as I'm sure the chooks will enjoy them.

I will cut some back today, and see if they're all gone when I get back from work.

Very Happy Thanks Bhindi, guess who'll be having a 'tasty morsel' this afternoon!

Funny, I never get the root and trunk shoots they speak of, I have a fairly big tree and it's lovely!

I wonder are the leaves a bit old now for eating, only one way to find out I suppose, might have a little salad with dinner! Cool
