If you feed your hens corn feed them in very small portions! Infact speaking from bad experience with corn I wouldn't feed it at all to hen unless it was a treat. Corn is highly fattening stuff my first two bantams got over fed on corn despite I only ever fed them half a rabbit sized bowl a day and they had access to a large garden o.0
Pellets its far safer stuff though a tad more expensive. |

Polystyrene ... or bits of old mastic that have got dropped in the courtyard. I'm sure they think the bits of mastic are giant worms, and they'll chase around and squabble over a bit for hours! |

Hi everyone
yes good question what is it with polystryene and poultry??? bought flowers from B&Q left them on my yard on a bench got home from work to find the plant scattered everywhere and no poly box!! caught the little culprits when bought a few more realised what was going on!!!
Really cannot be good for them but they love it !!! now I keep all plants well away hidden in my greenhouse until they are planted out!
Oh sorry why do my chucks leave all the barley in the mixed corn fed? |

'Cos I keep aviary birds i've tried lots with the girls.
They LOVE sunflower seed with or without husk, canary conditioning mix, hemp, - go absolutely mad for any 'waste' seed I chuck out supposedly for the wild birds - I use Foreign Finch as a basic mix, plus canary seed for guess what ........ the canaries:lol:
they also like dried mealworms, apple, porridge, sweetcorn,
Basically i've learn't just to chuck it in and try it |

Well I tried sunflower seeds and they LOVE them! It didn't take long to have them eating out of my hand and picking individual seeds from my fingers. My other half was having great fun feeding them too and I've had to warn him about limiting the amount he gives them. So at least I know now what they can't resist and will hopefully have them nice and tame over the next few weeks. |
