Hi everyone,
I am new to chicken keeping and have bought a coop with integral run, the bedding area excluding the nest box is 66cm x 52cm and the run is 2m x 75cm. How many chickens do you think I can get? the breeder I spoke to has Rhode Island Red crossed with Light Sussex birds and says they are on the small size, I was thinking about 4 birds but now the coop & run is asembled I am not sure how many to get as I don't want to overcrowd them. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards Rachael

generally the amount of chickens a coop/run says it holds is incorrect - also I disagree that light sussex/RIR are small birds - both are duel purpose so get relatively heavy. I would keep no more than 3 in that house/run combo unless you let them out to range a little more most days. and even that is pushing it a bit if they are large fowl.

The recommended house/run sizes are 1sqft per bird indoors and 4sqft per bird outside - if you go for bantams then you can have about double what you can with large fowl.
