How far off the ground can a nesting box be. I'm quite happy for it to be on the floor of the house which is wooden but my Father in law wants to build one that sticks out the side so you can collect the eggs without going into the hen house.
Which would you say was the better option, I'm easy either way but not sure how high up it should be. |

Depends on your set-up really.
Ours are on the floor of the coop but it is a large shed that you can walk into. If you only have a small coop then boxes on the outside would mean more room inside & possibly easier to collect eggs from too?  |

| Hi, you can walk inside the house its about 5 foot by 3 foot if not a little bigger, though you do need to duck your head inside a little. Its the kids old playhouse. |

I would have them inside as it's nicer to be under cover collecting your eggs when it's raining!  |
