My new girl appears to be a flighty little number, Ive got my eye on her, I have a feeling she will be trouble!!!
So what do I need to do to tame her down a little? |

| I have got a white Araucana hen called Zig. Orginally had 2 hens - Zig and Zag - named because they were so fast and zipping around everywhere! Zig is very vocal and lets you know when she is not happy about something. She lays beautiful blue eggs which is her saving grace! We have a love/hate relationship! |

Zig is a brilliant name. I dont know about Araucanas as a breed, but 'hazel' certainly zig's & Zags every where. I dont think she understands the concept of a straight line!
...does anyone know what colour you would describe her as? |

A few pictures of our Araucanas before they had to go. Unfortunately the four that hatched were all boys & so when they started their male voice choir in the early hours of the morning......Deed poll documents written & names changed to Paxo, Sage, Onion & Stuffing. A shame as they were lovely birds & we were so looking forward to the eggs, maybe another time.

You can see where the colouring for Cream Legbars comes from and I don't just mean the eggs |

I have decided to get some Lavender Bantam Araucanas once I have rehomed my chicks and cockerel
I live in Norfolk and am on the look out for 3 hens and an unrelated cock. I would like them as young as possible and certainly under a year old.
Any information on the breed would also be great, or a pointer to a good book (any excuse to buy more books )
If any one can give me some idea on what to look for when viewing this breed that would also be great.
Thanks for looking
Keep smilin

Elly, we purchased some Lavender Araucana eggs from the auction to hatch out, from memory they were available on most of our visits.

Don't know if this is close to you or not but noticed you are in the Norfolk area. The Wednesday auction was more interesting for us but each to their own. |

Today I picked up 6 newly hatched lavender bantam araucanas
I am really happy and have spent most of the afternoon watching them
I'll get some pics loaded up as soon as I can. Hopefully it will turn out at least half of them are girls. If so, I'll be looking for an unrelated cock in a few months time

They love chick rugby and are much quieter than the hybrid ones were
