Now, I need to know whether or not to make a giant omelette.
My daughter is coming to stay soon, and when she was here before she worked really hard in my garden making the bottom wild bit look tidy for me. The surprising news is that I haven't been able to keep up with it. I don't want her to be sad that I haven't looked after it too well, so yesterday decided it was the day to tackle it now it's been rained on and isn't so hot. Only a top dressing you understand ~ chop the tops of the tall grass (which was taller than me) and pull out a few of the weeds with flowers on. Got to the middle of one part and found and egg, fortunately I hadn't knelt down to pull weeds etc. Went a bit further and fond a whole clutch of them....9 eggs in a little nest...naughty chickens!!!!!!
I'm really glad I just spent all that money getting a rollaway nest box set for them, for them not to use it! I don't know how old the eggs are so the girls are having them back. I've hard boiled them all and checking them before I smash them for the girls ~ enough for 3 days me thinks.............................or shall I make that omelette? |

I am currently in the process of searching out my girl's new hiding spot. But with 10 acres of our own, plus the neighbors...I am having a rough go at it. I figure by the time I find the spot, there will be about 4 or 5 dozen in it. Sigh........ |

they're good at it aren't they? when you read the stories of hens disappearing where they're actually broody it's amazing. I've just never kept full track of whose laying and who isn't and whose laid and who hasn't ~ so never realised any eggs were missing.
Hope you find yours, but as you say on your acreage it could be a while yet and by then you'll need a wheelbarrow to carry them all! Good luck |

Wish I could find a nest - I am only getting 3-5 eggs a day from 10 hens! But they are in an enclosure that only a couple can escape from - still don't know how they do it! - so where could they be laying? |
