You can get wound powder from here:-

(scroll down near the bottom of the page)
but you may even be able to get it from a good pet shop. Wink

Don't know what to suggest about the cockerels red bottom! Maybe it's irritation from lice or mites but the Frontline should sort them out. Wink

I read this thread and decided to check my girls and horror of horrors I found three with awful wounds. I couldn't believe my eyes especially one of them, that she is still walking around is unbelievable. I have to take them to the vet tomorrow and the cockerel will be being separated and his spurs will be being treated, thanks to the advice on here. I'm so glad I checked.

It's really weird because apart from the one hen who is really sick and was sitting around, which is how I noticed her, you just couldn't tell anything was wrong with the others, except that I did see a large spot of blood earlier on one of the feeders and wondered what on earth it was from. I'm lucky to have a bit of Baytril left over from someone else which I gave her I still don't know if she will make it, why do these things always seem to happen on either Saturday or Sunday or a bank holiday!Excuse my ignorance but what is a hen saddle?

They fit on the hens back to help protect them from the cockerels spurs.

Thanks for that link. You learn something every day on here. Been to the vets this morning, worst girl has had an injection and meds to carry on with. Other two he reckons looks worse than it really is and chooks do have a great capacity for healing like a previous member said. So two have been released and have one in the house, she has infected wounds and breathing probs so don't know how it will turn out. Roosty is in solitary confinement and sulking. Shortly the spurs will be being blunted and so hopefully wont have these problems in the future.
