I have just been up checking on my chucks before bed time and one of them has orange coloured lice on her. I do not have any lice powder and wondered if there were any pet flea shampoos or sprays I could go and get to treat her with tonight.

You would be better to leave it - one more night won't do that much damage. I reckon it's risky to use other types of bug killer on hens, though others on here have and do use frontline so if you have that then 2 drops under each wing? Put some Nippon powder in the dust bath tomorrow or get some diatom.

Frontline for cats will get rid of them but do get the red mite or louse spray too. Nippon is good for the nest boxes too.

I dusted all the chickens with lice powder yesterday. Only one of them seems to have them .There are orange ones and white ones. I checked her this morning the ones on her back seem to have gone. But the ones underneath are still there. I will do her with frontline today. Do red mite live on the chicken? I checked the coup last night and wipe the purches but there are no sign of them.

Red mite mostly live in cracks and crevices in the house, but you do find them on the chickens too. Especially if you pick the chickens up at night which is when the mites feed on the chickens' blood. Would you like to try the redmite cure trial? (see thread in this section) I shan't be offended if you don't want to, but we have found this stuff quite effective at making the chickens "untasty" to mites/lice/fleas and it only costs the postage.

Thanks for that I will find the thread.

I treated her with frontline and they disappeared overnight. She is back to her happy self.
