| I notice from some posts that most of you use something to make the Flubenvet stick to the pellets or feed it in a mash. I have managed to work out that you need to mix just over 1 grm of Flubenvet to 1 kl of food (120grms to 100 kls of food on the instructions) so mine get 12 grms in each of full 10 kl feeders of pellets and i add the necessary when i fill up the containers for. I have never put anything in to make it stick to the pellets, does this mean they are not getting enough - or maybe too much at a time? |

| it tends to be left in the bottom of the feeder, so they don't get any, I do not use feeders when worming but washing up bowls as they are only £1 each just mix enough veg oil on the pellets to coat them then mix in the wormer so it sticks to the pellets and not getting wasted HTH |

I weigh out the food, put it in a sack, weigh out the flubenvet, sprinkle it on top of the food then close the sack and give it a good shake, I get through 25kgs of feed a week so that's quite handy (I don't actually have to weigh the feed) It is true what GillyC says about getting some at the bottoms of the feeders, but I just tip that back into the sack. I did think about using oil, but my main concern with that would be spreading the wormer evenly throughout the food. Quite a few on here do that - so it must work, but my way works too

I use cod liver oil to help the flubenvet stick on the advise of my vet and the good folks on here. My vet actually said it was essential to use it to make sure that the tiny amount of powder actually gets into any hens! 1/4 teaspoon flubenvet premixture to 1kg of pellets is the dose.

I used Smash (mashed potatoe), one sachet per day mix in the daily powder then mix in the pellets and a handful of mixed corn. I use 2 feeding trays and distribute it evenly in each tray so they all get a bit.
They love the mash potatoe and the trays are empty in about 10-15 minutes.
What i dont fully understand is how often to use it, some say once a year, some say twice a year, some say once a month.
Im going to call the vet up i think to look at my birds and see what they say. |

Thats a good idea Tracey - I usually just fill my feeders up and add the Flubenvet and stir it in, but for 7 days peace of mind that they are getting it I will try this method.
As for how often, I tend to worm mine 3 times a year as they free range, though I'm sure other will do it differently, I don't like to do it too often. |

Well i spoke to Janssen Animal Health today about Flubenvet and they said that normally most people use around every 3 months, but it can be used 3 weekly intervals if birds are on infected premises.
Also i found out today (some of you may already know) that chicken eggs are ok to eat while the chicken is on the flubenvet, BUT duck eggs are not to be eaten for the 7 days. |

| Well I gave my lot their Flubenvet yesterday with boiled rice and mixed corn, scoffed in minutes. Today we tried the made up smash and mixed corn with some mash, scoffed in seconds. Only problem is the Cockerel who stands there and lets all the girls eat everything first! I think I'd better give him his separately next time. |

I know I'm being really thick but I cannot get my head around Flubenvet dosage. I get the quarter teaspoon per kilo of feed thing, but surely it should be so much powder per bird? i.e. if I give the Flubenvet mixed up with mash spuds etc to four birds, surely I'd have to double the amount of Flubenvet with the same amount of mixture if I gave it to eight birds??? My head hurts!
Or is it just a case of mix up a quarter of a spoonful with a kilo of feed and that's okay no matter how many birds - within reason - you give it to? |

Yes, I am indeed thick!
I've finally grasped the whole average chicken eats 125g of food a day, times that by the number of birds and then times that figure by seven to get the dosage of Flubenvet. And my, what a tiny dose it is too!
HOWEVER . . . I still don't understand how you can feed a bird an entire day's ration mixed with the Flubenvet, Smash, rice etc and they eat it all in 15 mins???
That really has stumped me! |

| I have spoken to Janssen Cilag today (the manufacturers of Flubenvet) I asked why they didn't make a smaller more easy to calculate version preferably with a measure included. They assure me that it is work in progress at the moment and will be out at the end of this year or definitely next year. But here is some helpful information straight from the horses mouth: 12g Flubenvet per 10kg food. One level teaspoon is 4.5g, a heaped teaspoon is 11g and just a touch more to bring it up to 12g. It does not matter if this is eaten all at once or over the day. Using Oil to make it stick is NOT recommended as it tends to make the Flubenvet clump together too much in one place and it will not be evenly distributed. If you need to make it a bit sticky use a little water... Recommended way to mix is a little food, a little Flubenvet and mix, then a little bit more food and a little bit more Flubenvet and then mix. Mix and mix some more, it might take 10 minutes and when you think it is mixed enough, mix it again! Very helpful lady called Helen who has offered to speak to anyone who would like any further advice. Her number is 01494 567555. |
