Sorry everyone - searched this forum and links but can't find anyone who gives sizes, always generalisations. Three poultry books we bought don't tell us either.
So: how big should the pop holes be for our home-built housing? This is for ordinary hens, not bantams, just the local brown jobs.

Theres no exact size. Just make sure they can fit through. id say roughly 10 by 14 inches... mines kinda that size

I think I've made mine either 12" x 12" or 14" x 14".
You don't want them too tight a squeeze.

It's been mentioned on here a couple of times (but searching can be tricky) ... a little bit smaller than an A4 sheet of paper is a good size.

I use a sheet of A4 paper as a guide for bantams but make LF ones bigger, Appenzeller cocks need a taller door or they will scrape their tail on the top all the time, or bump their crest Rolling Eyes I think I did 10" x 14" for the LF.
