This afternoon at work I got a phone call from animal control. They had been driving past my house and noticed the filly caught up in the fence. I called the owner from my mobile on the way home. We met there and got her untangled and fixed the fence.

She is badly beaten up. Sad

Three big gashes on her lower neck and one on her butt. The owner's were going to call the vet and take her in.

When I got home from work, she was still there and still unstitched. As I turned around to go in the house to call them, they pulled in the drive, with the mobile vet service following them. Apparently their vet was out of town.

We (the 5 of us) wrestled her to the ground and then the vet gave her a shot to make her relax......HA!!!!!!!!........not! It took three of us to hold her down and keep her from kicking. The vet sewed as fast as he could. About 45 minutes and 28 stitches later....she was up and we were applying medicated salve.

I will have to apply the salve twice a day for the next 3 days. Then once a day for the remainder of two weeks. Poor sweetheart looks a wretched mess right now. She has so many cuts all over her (that didn't need stitches). I have to apply the salve to any open wound. Might as well just rub her full of it then...... Sad

Oh poor you on top of everything else. And poor June, that must really have frightened her not to mention the pain she must be in. It's bad enough getting one thorn in you let alone getting tangled on barbed wire. Hope she recovers ok ~ how was the owner with you ?

hope she heals up ok, poor thing must have been so scared, at least she has you to look after her and give here loads of fuss

I hope she'll be feeling a bit better soon. Hopefully as she's so young, the scarring will be minimal too.

What do you think made her run into the wire? It's not those dogs chasing again is it?

This is such an awful time for you you didn't really need another problem, did you? Sad

This morning as I was applying the salve, I took the time to look at her wounds. They are healing nicely, no signs of infection. The Doc did an excellent job of sewing her up. I don't think that once her coat grows back in, that you will hardly be able to see them. It looks like the hair will grow back, right up to the line.

She is being such a good girl, getting her salve treatments. The one big one on her neck still hurts her and she winces when I touch it, but stands to have it done. Mum nickers to her softly, probably telling her that I am helping to make it all better. Both of them have surpassed my expectations with the entire ordeal!

(Maybe, just maybe, things are starting to turn around...............)

oh bless you Deb. You are a saint. I would have struggled to keep it together if I had found june like that!

I did my good deed a week or so ago, was driving through lanes by the park, to be confronted with a loose horse galloping down the lane towards me! Shocked

didnt quite no what to do other than slow down and move over.. he had no tack or headcollar on. There is a v busy road at the other end of the lane (the directoion he was headed). Decided to abandon the car, handbag, the lot to go after this horse!
luckily, found him not far away next to a gate with another horse, he was calmly grazing! knocked on a house nearby (as had no idea where he was from, and lots of liveries round here) as luck would have it he lived behind her house - phew! (not her horse though)

between the 2 of us we got food, headcollar & leadrope, I went across and collected him. He was as calm as you like!

dont know what i would have done if i didnt know where he belonged... took him home i gues!!

anyway, gave me a fright, but glad i could help.
