Last week I was so pleased to see that the wisteria I planted 6 years ago has finally flowered (although you can hardly see the flower )....
that I almost didn't see this....
What you are looking at is the side view of a mallard duck who has made her nest in the angle made by the porch against the house. I have been weeding, without knowing she was there, up to a point around 2 feet away from her. She occasionally leaves the nest, having most carefully covered the eggs with a mixture of leaves and feathers. When she goes she is airborne almost immediately to avoid the possibility of her nest being discovered. We feel quite honoured by being hosts to her. |

Well the ducklings hatched on Monday, i came home to hear the geese being noisy down on the lake, went to investigate and they were having ago at the mum duck.
I went down and the geese moved away, the mum was on the side just walking away with her ducklings (i think she had about 10) she made her way into the grass and i havent seen her since. |
