|
|
This question was brought up in the poultry mart section and it's one I've been pondering too - I'm going to have some spare room in one of my runs and was thinking about keeping/breeding some quail, has anyone kept quail with chickens - is it a good idea?
They would have their own accommodation on the floor while the chickens would sleep in the raised coop - would there be a problem during the day when they are all out together though? |

Quails and hens are best kept separate. The hens would bully the quails - also quails can fly so you'll need the quail pen to have a roof on it otherwise they'll all end up next door |

| the run does have a roof - maybe I'll wait till next year and move all the hens over to the big coop and keep the small one for the quail.. would they go upstairs to sleep in a raised coop? |

| I don't know if they'd have the sense to climb up a ramp - mine prefer to creep underneath the evergreen branches I put down for them. They are ground dwellers mainly. |

hmmm... might have to build them their own accommodation sometime then.. Sure I can find room the the garden!
Do you know what the recommended sizes for a run for quail are? Say a trio and young |

What type of quail are you thinking of? This link may be helpful to you - http://www.quailsfromwales.org.uk/Housing.html
I have cpq so they don't need much space but the larger quails obviously do. |
