oops. just acquired two what i was told were English Game POL bantams.
took them home, admired them, popped them in their new home and then heard an almighty chorus of crowing.
oh pants, thinks I. they've given me a cockerel and a hen.
hear a little more crowing. go and investigate.
oh. nope, its not a cockerel and a hen. its TWO blimmin cockerels!
and they dont look remotely cockerelly- hardly any headgear or wattles, no ornate colouring, not particulalry long tail feathers.
i live in an urban area so no possibility of keeping them without the neighbours wanting to hit me with large objects....
i havent a clue what english game look like, or what the diff is between EG and OEG, if any.
more to the point, im going to have to put them back on freecycle, unless anyone on here wants them.
they are black with the green sheen, with speckled copper neck feathering. |

That'a a very irresponsible attitude from your supplier.
Was it a reliable breeder?
Is there not a farm near you where you could take them to?
If it were me I'd be very tempted to keep them............just to annoy the hell out of my neighbours who give me so much uneccessary grief! |

| Dig your heel in and take them back. If they intended to dispatch them, they should have done so. To palm them off on somebody else is simply shirking their responsibilities. |

| I agree, take them back. If they'd told you up-front they were coqs, you wouldn't have taken them, would you? |

| i really do understand your situation. we have been in the same one this week....we like you bought 2 brahma bantams a few weeks ago, last week tho 1 started crowing. I have spent huge amounts of time trying to find a new home for him (as we have neighbors being woken by him and ourselves) tried the city farms, animal parks, local farmers. i really didn't want to take him back to where we bought him as i know he would have been slaughtered. so anyway today we took him and the hen to a bird farm where we bought our others from and they will sell them as a pair. if they don't sell they will keep them themselves. i am so so relieved that i have found a good home for him...altho i did not want to really part with the hen but felt it was the best option as far as the cockerel was concerned. good luck |
