oh, they are so different when you have chicks and poults side by side, its very obvious Poults are a lot bigger and stronger for a start and they have more "reach" about them. I have to admit, there are some pics in the gallery where I've had to look twice but then they have been quails........... we need some sort of scale in the photos!! |

How many are there?
Did you do anything different for hatching Turkeys ?
My first ever Turkey eggs should arrive in the post today. I'm relying on all you experienced Turkey hatchers to pass on any tips |

Hmmm, turkey's.....not sure I could branch out....I don't like the look of them when they're older. Silly really, cos I'd only grow them to eat.
Nice to see the photos BB, please keep us updated with growing photos, I might be tempted |

Nothing different at all Spana, mine just mixed and matched with the hen eggs.
What breed Tracy? Good luck, if they are anything like mine, they'll be eating you out of house and home by end of day 2 (there's still time Spana, the bin's just over there............ ) Only kidding, mine all shot over to see me tonight whilst the leghorns and Damian the Orp all went in the opposite direction. Wonder which ones I'll be eating......... |

Not sure what breed Bronskibeat as they were eggs from friends but the turkeys are enormous.
Only roblem is I think one has died in the shell The other one is still taping away. I also have two goose eggs squeaking and squarking tapping to get out so hope they will encourage it out |

Turkey poults have that little soft lump just at the top of the beak - very obvious on the second photo, it turns into the snood on the male and just stays small on the female. They also make more of a peeping sound than chicks. I hatched some turkey poults under a broody hen last year, when I put them into an outside house and run the adult turkeys were very interested in these offspring when they don't bother too much about the chicks.
I love having my turkeys - they are very gentle and graceful, and make a wonderful talking point for passers by. They were no different to rear than chicks although I did have trouble getting turkey crumb so they had chick. By the time the turkey crumb had arrived (a 28lb sack for 3 birds ) they were eating growers Still my later chicks enjoyed it )
