Help, My broody has just pooped in her nesting box. We have 2 new chicks and 8 eggs still under her. Have moved her, chicks + eggs into clean box and gently wiped eggs. My worry is the broody has a very dirty bottom and I am concerned she will get fly struck or make her and chicks ill. Do we remove her and wash her or leave and hope?
Now worried on what was a great day

Despite removing my broody for a poo every day whilst they are sitting, once the eggs start to hatch I leave them alone and this always happens, I usually scoop the poo out and wipe/wash any eggs and return them. It is a bit early for fly strike but you are right to consider it, I think I would probably give her bum a wash and dry as best you can. The eggs and chicks will be fine for the few minutes it will take.
Sorry it's spoiling your day . . . but stuff happens and it makes us stronger when we have dealt with it

Broody has pooped as each egg has hatched and has a very messy back end. Really worried about this, but not sure what to do for best. She has 3 one day old chicks and is still on 6 eggs. Do I wash her or not? Help please

I would wash her if she's really that bad. Don't want it getting the chicks all messy too. Yuk!
I have noticed a few flies around lately & you really don't want to allow them the opportunity to lay eggs. Fly strike is seriously awful - I speak from experience as our first cockerel had it. I never want to go through that again if I can help it! |

Have cleaned out her house and dusted with red mite powder. When we picked broody up we could see just how messy she had got so have gently washed her back end, towel dried her then put her back with chicks and eggs. Hoping she will settle for night now and all will be OK. Think I will be worrying all night 
To add to thngs it loks as though another egg has pipped, keeping everything crossed

She seems very happy today and is really picking up. We now have 4 chicks and she is still on 5 eggs  Its amazing how she is looking after the chicks and the eggs as well. Since the chicks have hatched she has become more active and is eating well, her whole demure is so much better.
Will give the other eggs another 48hrs, unless she decides otherwise, as they were laid over several days and some may need a bit longer.
