Was wondering when people on here normally shear? I know its a odd question and a fair few on her have self-shearing breed. I noticed a few years back there are different times for different places across the country.

Got my shearing course is at the end of this month Rolling Eyes

I would usually be getting the show sheep done now and the rest of the flock will be end of this month. I've got to persuade the shearer yet!! Laughing

I've just "ordered" my shearer and they will get done when he has time Laughing

- only got 5 to do. Question for those of you with rams - do you bring them all in together for shearing or do you keep them separate?

I think you can bring them in as well, but not sure with the lambs in. out towrds debcat the rams live the summer with last years lambs.

I keep mine separate but only because I have upwards of 20 tups at any one time and the wool marketing board want tup/ewe/gimmer wool all kept separate in different wool bags Rolling Eyes

no idea why as I dont get paid any more for gimmer wool versus tup wool and mine have one of the highest grades Evil or Very Mad

I had my sheep done on Saturday (10th May), last year i had them done around the 19th May.

This year they all had ( i have 4 +4 lambs, my freind has 4) really dirty bums quick, the shearer said its the goodness coming through the grass. Last week all the sheep were really panting Sad

, but now they look much happier Very Happy

Shearer came to me the middle of May - did the ram and wether separately after turning the girls and lambsd back out in the bottom paddock. Shearer thought it great as I can put a halter on Harvey (ram) and Cookie (wether) will fololow him anywhere. I was amazed at how well behaved the ram was - the wether was a little s*d wriggling and fighting it (first time for both wether and ram) but the ram loved it - just laid there enjoying it (I was expecting him to move in the right positions to help the shearer Laughing

). They all have got that weird just sheared look but seem alot happier in the warmer weather - though they still have dirty bums!!!!!!
