bio control of red mite

im hoping to get into chickens this year but am also a reptile keeper, when people get an infestation of mites on there reptiles they use the usual products ie frontline etc but a lot of peoiple are turning to a predatory mite with a lot of success and didnt know if it had been tried on red mite, the site a lot of people get them from is http://www.defenders.co.uk/ what are people thoughts

I can't see anything on that site that relates to poultry. The red spider mite mentioned isn't the same as redmite. Wink

Are you saying that people are introducing a predatory mite into reptile set ups to control the snake mite?

Do you have any more information on this? thanks

i know its not the same as redmite but didnt know if it or something similar could be used

kitsune this is another forum i go on try searching ion there or any other reptile forum and you should find something most people use chemicals but a few others use the mites, with me using the woed predatiry might have conjured up the wrong picture basically the other "bugs" feed on the bad mite and bring the numbers down

well I can't see there being any harm in trying it - if they don't feed on the red mites then they'll just die off.. if you do try it then please let us know if it does work.

could be in for a wait not got the chickens yet and so dont have the red mite hopefully never touch wood just thought i start a healthy discussion on maybe a new control option
