Hi all. we returned from holiday on fri after 10 days.we had my parents looking after the girls.so in really good hands .whilst away my parents had come over everyday and also let them out if they were going to be here for a while.they have got them back into there run lots of times before so they know what to do.last sat they called them all in they came apart from one .they then spent 4 hours trying to coax her in .in the end they had to leave her out all night.
come next day and manged to get her in with the others. after they were so worried it would happen again they didnt let them out.so the other 4 suffered! The same thing happened to me yesterday.she will come to the door of the run with the others then seems too nervous to come in with somebody there .even if i throw the corn in she will not go in like the others.we had to leave her out and when we returned i manged to pick her up.
So wise ones please help me!! |

Can't you get behind her and shoo her in?
I sometimes have to round mine up, if I want them in slightly earleir than usual.

You need a long stick (no not to hit her with ) but as an arm extension, or a human helper, and don't get too close. A normal height electric fence stake is ideal as an arm extension. You can extend it to cover the area she is going to run to. They go through phases of being "difficult" Maybe something happened at the door to the run when you were away - maybe your parents closed in too quickly and startled her. If you can get a human helper three days of going in nice and steadily should clear her mind.
If you can only be there on your own just patiently walk round and try again, get the others in the house if you can so they don't come out again.

| Check the house for red mite - some hens taste better than others. |

| Maybe the other hens pick on her when they roost. |
