Hi all, a quick question. The children found a couple of cuttlefish on the beach when we had a sunny day recently! They brought them home for the chicks (5 weeks old now) but I have not let them give the cuttlefish to the chicks until I have checked with the oracles (PKF) that it is ok. I have soaked said cuttles in fresh water to remove as much salt, so over to the experts....

I always grab a few when i go fishing.A friend uses them for his african snails Confused
I boil them once for say 15-20mins then change the water and boil a second time. Then put them in the airing cupboard until completely dry.

May I ask, is the cuttlefish from pet shops ok to give to chooks as it is or will that need to be boiled first?

Sorry for the stupid question! Rolling Eyes

Thanks, I suppose if they're selling it for budgies etc I suppose it must be pre-boiled but I will ask anyway, although I doubt the girl in my local pet shop will know - not terribly knowledgable in there!

Just out of interest - what does the cuttlefish do for chooks? Is it just a treat or is there a 'health' reason for giving it to them?

Thanks
Jackie
